H2O [Hip-Hop Odyssey]
Social Awareness Through Media!
H2O [Hip-Hop Odyssey] is the media initiative of the H2A, which supports the use of Hip-Hop culture as a tool to teach media literacy and social awareness. Our goal is to create a platform to showcase the best in Hip-Hop Cinema, as well as address and analyze the exploitation of Hip-Hop in films, television, radio, print, and the internet. After 5-years, the Hip-Hop Association has teamed up with Third World Newsreel to launch, H2O Newsreel. This is the evolution of the H2O International Film Festival into a full-fledge service that includes an exhibition platform, professional development training, access to equipment and editing facilities, marketing and promotions, and distribution.
* H2O Newsreel Distribution - Through the development of innovative technological tools and media affiliates, H2O Newsreel extends into education, network and cable television, theatrical, and the broadband and mobile markets. This service offers our media maker's maximum exposure and income generating opportunities.
* H2O Newsreel Online Festival - The festival will showcase work from aspiring and established filmmakers, that highlights positive and socially relevant representations of Hip-Hop culture.
* H2O Newsreel Programming- In collaboration with our community building initiative, H2O Newsreel will work with selected filmmakers to program their films at high schools, colleges, universities, conferences, film festivals, and museum.
* Odyssey Awards - The Odyssey Awards is where we announce the winners of the festival and acknowledge the most important Hip-Hop filmmakers, industry professionals and pioneers. This signature event features appearances and performances by Hip-Hop heavyweights such as, Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, MC Lyte, Kanye West, Roxanne Shante, and Ice T. The next Odyssey Awards will take place Summer 2009.
