Kraków is a wonderful city to explore on your own. The streets are well-marked, the buses and trams easy to negotiate, and the natives friendly. Head south over the bridge to working-class Podgórze to see a Kazimierz with real residents. Jump on tram 1 or 7 heading east to the Kraków Plaza, the city’s biggest shopping mall for some street fashion in action. Or just go blindly into that great maze of streets and rail lines beyond the Old Town, poking your head into little shops, joining in a game of piłka nożna (football) in a park or having a beer in a local piwnica (pub).
