It is that time again. The Tour De Cure is coming and I am once again asking for people to sponsor me.. I am going to bicycle the 100K Challenge ride again. Last year I ended up walking 2 of the hills and riding up all the others... I am not going to walk any this year!!! So I am committed to getting in more miles/spin classes in then I did last year. Keep up to date with my progress with my workout blog to the left.
Now to your part, Diabetes is a growing epidemic in the United States. I see the children at my daughters elementary school and so many of them are at increased risk for diabetes by being overweight. Not only do we need to find a cure but until then we need to get awareness of the dangers of being a overweight and not being active. I am sure you have heard of Juvenile Diabetes, this is not what I am talking about, I am talking about "Adult Onset Diabetes" (Type2) in children. Parents don't think that they will become a Diabetic because of their unhealthy living let alone their elementary school child.
I know that everyone is concerned with the economy at this time . Did you stop by Starbuck's today? Planning on going out to eat tonight, this weekend? I am not asking for your paycheck, mortgage payment or even your car payment. All I am asking is for you not to go out one night and donate that money to fight diabetes . Here is the link to do just that http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC270418030?pg=personal&fr_id=5027&fr_id=5027&px=1739696 . My Daughter Morgan (9 Years old) is also riding the TDC , here is her link http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC270418030?pg=personal&fr_id=5027&fr_id=5027&px=2778353
If you absolutely cannot donate money, how about time? How about being a Volunteer to help out at your local Tour De Cure ride or dust off your bicycle and join a team ?
