About these pages

This page provides a link into some social networking tools and their application, particularly in libraries. Other tabs lead to a page on Web 2.0 in general and to pages on specific social networking tools. These pages were created by Sheila Webber, s.webber@sheffield.ac.uk for a workshop in July 2008 and updated on 10 September 2008, July 2009 (the Virtual Worlds section) and and 2 November 2009 (several sections, with some more general Web 2.0 material added)

About this application

There are various similar services to the one used for this site (Netvibes). Two  Google applications are linked below: iGoogle is most similar in concept and Google Sites is more wiki-like. One of the problems is that they may have limits as to what you can embed. For example on Google sites I could embed a Google Presentation powerpoint, but not one from the more popular Slideshare.

Below is a link to a page on the ARLIS Social Networking blog where I have embedded 4 good Powerpoints on social networking by Phil Bradley, Karen Blakeman, Jane Secker and Kathryn Greenhall.
