Who are we and what is “this collection” about?
this collection is a festival which celebrates what we have – and what we can make possible – within our means: starting with our very own postcode.
“We made our own media, our own music, our own clothing, all out of nothing. It wasn’t something we did on weekends, we had an agenda. Everyone’s was different, and no one knew quite what it was. We were all trying to ride the same wild horse at once.” – Jello Biafra
We are a group of poets, filmmakers and musicians, connected to and inspired by Edinburgh. We want to collaborate to create a fusion of poetry and film, reflecting the issues and goings-on of this dynamic, creative and mercurial capital city.

We need poets to submit original, unpublished works inspired by life in Edinburgh. These poems can be written in any style or layout, but must be no more than 100 words and loosely based on an Edinburgh area or postcode. Your challenge is to capture the spirit of the city within this small space – do it however you want. If you’re stuck, here are some jumping-off points:
o The street where you live
o Exploring Edinburgh
o Radicals & Revolutionaries of Edinburgh
this collection is looking for 100 inspiring, thought-provoking, acutely observant, witty and imaginative 100 word poems!

Edinburgh-based filmmakers will be invited to respond to each poem in the form of a short film, which will be no more than 100 beats long. Filmmakers and poets will be offered an opportunity to work together and exchange ideas.
The 100 poems and 100 films will be published on this collection website, visitors to the site will be invited to upload their own creative responses to them. In addition, workshops – open to general public – will be held around the city, allowing further creative responses to this collection’s original 100.
Get your invitation to the festival: select venues all over Edinburgh will host performances and screenings of work. Poets will be invited to read to audiences, and companion films will be screened, completing the creative fusion. These events will also feature live sets from local musicians, and performers will be welcome to distribute their own merchandise (pamphlets, books, CDs, etc).
This collection hopes to showcase its poems and films at further events in conjunction with Leithfest, the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the Edinburgh Book Festival. Poets and filmmakers will also be invited to participate at these event
