I am a Senior Lecturer in Technology Enhanced Learning at the University of London, International Programmes. Previously an eLearning and IT manager at King's College London. I remain an associate research fellow at King's Learning Institute and a Fellow of the Centre for Distance Education at the University of London where I chair the research strategy group. I am currently working on a number of research projects that include: a study of social software in distance education settings; pattern languages for Web2.0; designing for learning with Multi-User Virtual Environments (MUVEs) in education; integrating social software to tighten feedback loops in e-Assesment; and as part of the EMERGE project team supporting a UK wide community of practice in user innovation in the area of emerging technologies. My research interests include questioning the meaning of identity in online learning, the impact of shifting relations in the dimensions of space and time in MUVEs (such as Second Life), social presence, social networks, and the changing nature of change.
