Overview

You need a degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Sussex is! Or you can take an accredited psychology conversion course after a non-psychology degree There are different qualifying routes for each path. It will either involve a Master's plus further on-the-job qualifications, or a Doctorate Experience will be important to get onto a course. Look for paid or voluntary work with client groups related to your chosen career path

Personality & Skills

You will need to combine empathy and understanding with communication skills. And be able to apply your academic knowledge with excellent analytical skills. You must be resilient, calm under pressure and determined to succeed.

Downs

Extremely competitive. It can take years to qualify, so make sure it’s what you want to do. Working with distressed people can be upsetting
